Push America

Pi Kappa Phi is the only fraternity to operate its own national philanthropy, known as PUSH America.   This philanthropy, through various different methods, works hard at bettering the lives of people with disabilities all across the country. The Eta Lambda chapter here at Brockport is no different in working for the three pillars of PUSH America, fund raising, volunteerism, and awareness. Click the links above to see the individual events Push America has to offer, and be sure to look at our chapters' Pi Alpha Society members!

Three Pillars

1) Fund raising: In our history we have raised thousands of dollars for PUSH America, averaging an annual amount between $2000 and $2500. We do this through several functions, in both the fall and spring semesters. In both semesters, we do a "dorm storm" which is when the brothers go around to every residence hall and collect money for Push America. Also taking place both semesters is our annual Sit-a-thon where we set up a tent in Union Square and collect money 24 hours a day for 2-4 days. No matter what mother nature throws at us, you can count on us to be out there no matter what collecting money. If you would like to donate, click the link to the left. Any donation over $50.00 is tax-deductible using Push America's Tax ID number given to you after your donation is processed.

2) Volunteerism: PUSH America operates numerous national projects during which Pi Kapps from all across the nation come together and work on camps, parks, and other public facilities all to make them better for people with disabilities.   Such events include Give-A-Push Weekend, PUSH Camp, Journey of Hope, Gear Up Florida, AccessABILITY, Build America, and others. Our own chapter has had numerous brother attend these events.

3) Awareness: This is perhaps one of the most important aspects of PUSH America.   You could raise all the money in the world, or build all the ramps, but if you don't make the public aware of what they can do, or that people with disabilities are no different than you or I, we accomplish nothing.   We work just as hard at our fund raising events and our volunteer projects to make sure that we get our message out to the public through fliers, newspapers, or even word of mouth.

Through these three pillars Pi Kappa Phi works hard to help make the day to day life easier and more comfortable for people with disabilities all across the country.
